According to Merriam Webster’s Dictionary, Astrology is an archaic word for astronomy, and the definition is “the divination of the supposed influences of the stars and planets on human affairs and terrestrial events by their positions and aspects.”

The beginnings of Astrology

The Hindus first used astrology in 5000BC; however, the Egyptians cast the first birth chart sometime between 3000BC and 300BC. The Egyptians gave stars, and groups of stars, names, and then assigned that name to each astrological sign. All twelve signs have their own individual characteristics.

To enhance their uniqueness, every sign is also associated with a planet, the sun, or moon. An Astrologer considers each of these aspects, plus several others, when giving a person a reading.

Sometimes called witchcraft, many people believe the charts and maps of the stars at the time of birth give a person insight into their basic personality.

Through the years, astrology has guided and entertained kings, emperors, celebrities, and the common people. Whether it can hold up to scrutiny or not, we as humans continue to use it to help us learn about others and ourselves.
