A soap opera, commonly known as soap for TV enthusiasts, is a continuous, divided work of dramatic fiction presented in serial format on radio or television.

It has generated huge popularity lately. The appeal of soap opera formula has been expanded, but not replaced, and this has assured its enduring success over fifty years in many countries. Entertainment that targets stay at home housewives to sell household products, the daytime drama audience now includes professionals of both sexes. These shows were focused at and consumed by a large number of female audiences.

The term soap opera has at times been generally themed to any romantic serial, but it is also used to describe the more naturalistic, unglamorous Brit primetime drama serials. The other appeal of soap opera is that it allows individuals to escape from their own lives for a few hours. Usually in drama, they are very attractive people playing some pitiful roles, some enjoys the scandal that they provide and pretend to live dramatically through the characters.

Soap Opera is just a form of entertainment but most of the time, they could address social issues that are happening in our society. Soap Drama is a common interest among women and groups of house makers and for that it always gives them something to talk about. In every soap, human life is there.

From birth, new life to sorrow and death, the good ones and there are villains too. The good characters understand that even in the times of anguish & despair there is always hope and happiness.

We all cannot deny from the fact that soap operas are one of the most popular genres to watch on television. An increasing amount of studies has been suggested as to why this is the case, one significant field of study being linked with the emotions and gratifications of the viewers.
