Apply for the 2011 Gates Millennium Scholars Scholarship

As an African American, Ludgina Faustin, was granted a Gates Millennium Scholars Scholarship.

All she had to do was what students can do this year and apply for the 2011 Gates Millennium Scholars(GMS) Scholarship. Applicants must be a citizen, national or legal permanent resident of the United States and have a high school grade point average of 3.3 on the 4.0 weighted scale or have a GED. There will be more than 1000 students who will also apply for the 2011 Gates Millennium Scholars Scholarship but of those only 1000 of those students will receive one.

This GMS Scholarship program is specifically available to Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Asian Pacific Islander Americans and African Americans. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation established this scholarship fund in 1999 that supports GMS Scholarship recipients, through out their college career.

These GMS Scholars may also apply for the 2011 Gates Millennium Scholars Scholarship for graduate school. The GMS Scholarship program not only provides financial support for the scholars who have won a grant, but there are also leadership programs that enable and empower the recipients in both their personal and professional advancement.

There are several other requirements to fulfill when a student wishes to apply for the 2011 Gates Millennium Scholars Scholarship. The student must enroll for the first time in a US located accredited college or university. The candidates must also show proven leadership skill by way of participation in community service or other extracurricular involvement. The student must also qualify for a Pell Grant and complete the three required application forms for the GMS Scholarship application process.

Dian Yu received a GMS Scholarship and is currently enrolled as a student at Harvard University. Along side of her is Jharret Carillo who is a junior at Yale University where she is a science major. Selaafu Tauteoli is a junior at the University of Utah and is a science major who received a GMS Scholarship.

Tia Simmons, a Public Health Master second, attends the University of North Carolina at Greensboro also has been awarded her graduate funding from the GMS Scholarship. As an Engineering major who was awarded a GMS Scholarship, Raymond Ejiofor attends Carnegie Mellon University in his junior year.

To give yourself the best chance to successfully complete the application, review eligibility criteria carefully and choose carefully the ‘Recommender’ and ‘Nominator.’ Follow a checklist and file the applications by the deadline.
