The Importance Of A Glucose Monitor

The Importance Of A Glucose Monitor

Diabetes is a growing disease that effects many people all over the world.

There are several different kinds of diabetes, however, it falls into two main categories, Type I and Type II. Studies are showing that people who are obese will specifically be at risk for Type II Diabetes.

Diabetes effects the insulin in the body keeping it from properly breaking down glucose. Glucose, is a blood sugar, which is used for energy. Depending on what type of diabetes a person has determines what category they will be classified in.

The insulin in the body can either be too high or too low. That is why it is so important that someone who is effected by diabetes keeps track with a glucose monitor.

It is essential that people monitor their blood sugar levels with a glucose monitor. If a blood sugar is too high it can cause someone to go into a diabetic coma and can even cause death. Depending on a persons activities, how they feel, what they eat and what type of diabetes they have will determine how often their blood sugar is monitored.

Regular exercise is very important because it actually helps to lower blood sugar. However, too much exercise may cause a problem if a person has not eaten properly. It is important that a person uses their glucose monitor, to check blood sugar levels, before exercising.

It is possible that a blood sugar can be too low. This falls into the category of Type I Diabetes. Those who have Type I Diabetes have to check their blood sugar levels more often than those who have Type II Diabetes.

It is really easy to check blood sugar levels, even at home, with a glucose monitor. All the monitor needs is a drop of blood.

  1. Before beginning, thoroughly wash your hands.
  2. Prick your finger and place a drop of blood on the diabetic strip.
  3. Place the diabetic strip into the glucose monitor.
  4. The monitor takes care of the rest and digitally provides the glucose level.

Depending upon the level that it produces will determine what action needs to be taken.

Test yourself with a blood glucose meter for diabetes. It's better to be safe than sorry!
