The First Plus Platinum Credit Line is not a credit card but a credit line available to everyone, including those with bad credit, no credit or bankruptcies.

The First Plus Platinum Credit Line requires no credit check, secured credit card deposit or employment verification. While not a "credit building tool" First Plus Platinum Credit Line does offer consumers an opportunity to rebuild credit. The company reports on all consumer accounts to PRBC (Payment Reporting Builds Credit), a national credit reporting agency created to allow people with bad or no credit to build a solid credit history.

For instant credit approval and a free 7-day trial membership, which can be canceled without penalty at any time during the trial, a consumer need only complete an on-line application and pay a small processing fee of $2.78. There is no penalty to cancel the free trial membership within 7 days, however the processing fee of $2.78 is nonrefundable. After the trial period and within thirty days a membership may be canceled, but the $2.78 processing fee and a $9.95 monthly maintenance fee are non-refundable.

If membership is continued, a $39.95 monthly membership fee will apply. This fee includes an elite membership fee of $30.00 and a monthly maintenance fee of $9.95. As long as a member uses the credit line for at least $39.95 in monthly purchases, the entire membership fee is applied to the balance. The APR for purchases the first year is 0% and 7.9% for each year thereafter.

First Plus Platinum Credit Line also provides two additional free trial memberships to new customers, one with VCOMM, a national/international long-distance service provider, and another with ID Watchdog, an identity theft protection service. First Plus and/or third-party memberships can be canceled by a member at any time.

A review of the First Plus Platinum Credit Line revealed a number of on-line posts from disgruntled consumers who complained of being unable to access the on-line shopping area and of therefore being unable to use their credit lines to make purchases.

Other customers objected to making deposits on purchases over $5.00, although it clearly states in First Plus Platinum's Terms and Conditions and FAQs that "deposits may be required for some purchases." First Plus maintains that these deposits defray the cost of extending credit without a credit check and allow them to provide the 0% APR.

Some consumers claim they were unable to cancel trial memberships because they could not contact First Plus Platinum, either by e-mail or by phone, and were billed for memberships against their wishes. It is unclear whether these customers attempted to contact the third-party providers of trial memberships. Customers also complained of e-mail offers about other products/services but, again, First Plus clearly states that the membership includes consent to receive third-party offers.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) Reliability Report on First Plus Platinum Credit Line states that the company is not BBB accredited and that they "are unable to confirm a valid local business license for the locale in which the company operates." A consumer doing business with an unlicensed firm does so at his/her own risk. Six complaints against First Plus have been registered with the BBB during the last 36 months and all six have been resolved in the last year. The complaints involved billing, unauthorized credit charges and/or bank debits and refund/exchange issues.
