Passenger liners have been a popular mode of overseas travel for generations.

There has been very little change in the design and properties of these liners. The only noticeable improvement has been on the engine which has undergone remarkable technological advancement.

Passenger staterooms, deck spaces and public lounges have not shown much difference from those in S.S. Titanic. Most modern ships plying the waters today have replicated the amenities and grand styling of previous steam ships. The overall purpose has remained same as well.

Big cruise ships are probably the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of taking a cruise. These ships are often big, carrying up to 3000 passengers in a single voyage. They come packed with such amenities as shopping arcades, pools, gyms, theatres, play rooms, spas and night clubs. Some even come with wave pools and rock climbing walls.

There are also small cruise ships which carry no more than 500 passengers. These ships offer more customized and intimate style than their big counterparts. The main advantage of these ships is that they offer you a much closer look at your destination and are able to take you where jumbo ships can not reach.

Riding through famous European river ways is a wonderful substitute for taking a coach tour or driving your self around. This is where European river boats come handy. With you cabin doubling up as your restaurant, you are bound to enjoy the location in the heart of town as you travel from one village to the next in an exemplary style.

You might also consider chattering a yacht for a more personalized service. Yachts carry a smaller number of people and are ideal for shoreline and riverine tours.

A paddle steamer is an old fashioned cruise ship which is propelled by a steam engine. One or more paddle wheels are used to propel these ships through water. They are equally great for river adventures.

Ferries on the other hand are solid boats which provide short distance rides between islands giving you a greater feel of the sea.
